heh, i just had to share that. it reminds me of trying to set up the new internet system at my mother's house recently - my brother and i are pretty geeky but it took nothing short of a minor miracle to get it to work. it also reminds me of every apartment i've ever lived in ... those first few weeks pirating internet are always up and down. i love xkcd.
went to a show on saturday night - that band i blogged about recently, nightwish, and another band, sonata arctica. it was a wonderful time ... i went with my friends eric and mike and we had a blast. i found a few videos on youtube some kid must have taken - the sound on this video is seriously atrocious but it's cool to see the show you were at. i was somewhere in the middle of the pit crowd at this point, although by the end i was second row from the front. i was kind of bummed, though, they didn't play my favourite song! but i got to meet the founder / songwriter / keyboardist of the band, tuomas. pictures are forthcoming.
anyway, looks like gustav spared new orleans for the most part, although it's relatively early to tell. i didn't realize in my last post that the image i'd posted direct from the national hurricane center was an actual live image that kept getting updated. heh, at least you can see what's going on without even having to look elsewhere. at least there's minimal flooding going on there, and hopefully the evacuees will be able to return soon and start picking up the pieces. they really didn't need another katrina right now ... i'm not sure how the rest of louisiana and mississippi fared. many people are saying it's going to be a few days before the brunt of the damage actually comes to light, as the storm surge is far from over and the levees could still be pushed by the rain and wind as the storm moves up the mississippi river. it'll also be interesting to see what hurricane hanna is going to be up to.
(might as well give you this graphic to work with too.) we haven't heard much about it, which i suppose is more than understandable as people have been dealing with gustav, but now that it's simmered down a bit, we can maybe focus on this other storm that's coming in to probably hit the carolinas. by the by, if you can't tell, i love hurricanes. :P
i saw the dark knight tonight, finally! it was fantastic. at first when i watched the joker, all i saw was heath for a while ... he still looked so young. sigh. the movie was put together very well ... flowed beautifully; even though it's such a long movie i never felt bored. definitely glad i saw it in the theatre. for any further commentary, look to someone else - i'm no movie buff!also, i had a vivid dream about myself having relations with michael phelps last night. what the hell?
i promise there's a "nichole can't stand sarah palin" post coming soon. i just don't have any more energy right now, haha. but i promise, it's coming, and it's going to be wonderful.
