it has come to my attention that i haven't blogged in a while. i should probably get around to doing that a little more often. sometimes i go through periods where i really am either busy or just completely unmotivated. i suppose i'm through that.

i'm curious to see who obama's running mate is going to be. i'm a member of several democratic email lists (DSCC, MoveOn, NH democratic party, etc) and it's all they're talking about, as well as the major media outlets. i'm amused to discover that the buzz surrounding mccain's vice presidential pick is significantly more muted. why that is ... i couldn't tell you. obviously i'm still a little bummed out that it's not going to be john edwards, but i'm almost getting over the whole fiasco - and he deserves to be ousted from the party a bit, no matter how beneficial his political work would have been. i suppose you have to pay for what you get. the shortlist, as far as i know (or at least what the huffington post is nodding to) includes evan bayh (senator from indiana who i like, he's such a spitfire), joe biden (senator from delaware), and virginia governor tim kaine. i don't know much about kaine, but i would be more than ecstatic if senator bayh were to get the nom. if edwards can't be the running mate, evan bayh is the next best thing. he's a little more centrist than i'd like, but he's generally supportive of my stance on the major issues. i worry about the others caving under pressure.

hm, let's see, what else. still in the process of moving. my car is not appreciating the consistent mileage. she's well over 251,000 miles now. this weekend i'm heading south again and then sticking back in NH for a while. still job-less but i'm picking up side work through various family businesses. the economy up here, when you ignore the tourist attractions, apparently is not doing well. poverty is rising and money is tight all around. i'm worried i won't be able to get a steady job that's not somehow in retail or food service - not that i'm trying to be incredibly picky but i'd like to move out of those areas, as that's what i've done most of my life and i'd like to pad the résumé with something a little different.

i suppose i'll end this with a fun snippet i read today off CNN (which has since been edited, glad i saved it) ... if you're down in florida, i hope you're not being washed away by the tropical storm / hurricane / monsoon. i'll stick with my awesome fall weather up here. be sure to come visit! it's nice and dry!

Four catfish kept a Delta Air Lines flight from landing on time at Melbourne International Airport on Wednesday, CNN affiliate WFTV reported.

The walking catfish, which use their pectoral fins to move and can stay out of water for some time, were on the runway and airport crews had to move them before the plane could land.

Besides the catfish, crews also encountered two gopher tortoises, a blue indigo snake and an alligator, WFTV reported.
