i find it to be almost laughable how roaches just don't affect me anymore.

i've been dealing with roaches for much of my adulthood years. when i was living in boston, my roommate and i lived in this one place where the roaches in the basement were absolutely huge. probably about yay big:

i'm not kidding. needless to say, we got out of there pretty fast. i was mortified.

fast forward to my apartment i live in now, in new britain. even before we moved in here, the place had to be fumigated twice due to incessant amounts of roaches. it kind of sketched me out, but i really liked the place, so i didn't mind going through with it. those roaches at their largest were about this big:

even with the bombing and whatnot of the house for roaches, many still pressed on - mostly tiny ones. we pretty much acccepted this and began to use raid around the house once weekly. my roommate is still pretty petrified of them, and i was really iffy with them to start, but i began to smash and remove them. with the onset of winter, most, if not all, disappeared.

well, now that summer's back, our friends the roaches have returned. they're only about this size now:

i've only seen them in the kitchen, which is good because they used to be rather spread out. so at least we've got them contained. but honestly, if i'm washing the dishes and a roach scurries around, if i'm too busy washing, i'll let it go. it's no longer a matter of, "augh! a roach!" and dashing for the raid. now, it's kind of a sick co-existence ... and if i'm in the mood, i'll take them out.

gross? possibly. such is the life in section eight housing.

i also find it to be laughable that i thought the little roach in "wall-e" was really cute. oh, how things change.
